Guidance Notes For Directors

Before Play

Put out travellers and score cards onto all tables. All stationery is kept in the built-in cupboard opposite the entrance to the right hand side play room.

Put out the table numbers (located on the shelf in the main room). Tables are numbered anti-clockwise with table 1 being the table next to the computer. North is usually located back to wall.

Put out the boards. Boards 1 & 2 onto table 1, boards 3 & 4 onto table 2 and so on.

Check who is the host and organise the " pairing off ". Try and match players of similar standard and match the host last.

Count the number of tables and select the movement. Special ‘Reading' movement cards are located in the marked envelopes on the tray in the stationery cupboard. The instructions for the movement is given on the movement cover sheet.

If there is a half table, find the location of Pair 13 and ask the pair to move to the half table and take on the new number. Pair 13 will become a missing pair. As Pair 13 is scheduled to play at Director's table on the last round it would enable you to start scoring a few minutes earlier.

Make any announcements (movement, missing pair etc) and start play at 7.15pm sharp. Give clearance for the host to leave, if appropriate.

Note: Watch the 12 table movement as tables 6 & 7 share boards.

Note: Team movements are also kept in the stationery cupboard. Do not use travellers for team events. Also arrange for one North / South and one East / West score card from each team to be handed in at the end of the evening.

During Play

Allow 15 minutes per two board round or 22 minutes for a three board round.

Do not ask the players to MOVE with more than two tables still in play.

Watch the movement of the boards to and from any relay table.

Always take a rule book with you when called to a table.

Warn any players who are consistently late finishing.

Keep a check on time. By 9.00pm, 14 boards should have been played.

Break

Call the break after seven 2 boards round close to 9pm.

Allow about 15-20 minutes for break.

Any delayed board from the first half should be played during the break.

Use the break to prepare the computer for scoring (enter the movement, names etc) as instructed in the sheets located on the computer trolley shelf.

The Treasurer or another nominated person will collect table money immediately after the break.

After Play

Collect in table numbers, movement cards and unused score cards. Before putting away, check that there are none missing. Put movement cards back into the envelope, and table numbers back into the box.

Collect in the travellers and check that none are missing and there are all numbered.

For team events collect in as well one North / South and one East / West score card from each team.

Collect travellers and score the evening on the computer.

Collect boards and sort them into order.

Check the room, to ensure nothing has been left out or behind by players and lights turned off.
